About Nambucca Psychology
Meet Claire Latham
I am a Registered Psychologist with more 20 years of experience providing therapy to clients. My approach is compassionate and client-centred, with a focus on the whole of the human experience of each person. I will listen, learn your story and what is meaningful to you. I work with clients to set and achieve goals for change, because I want you to leave with a sense that your time and effort has been worthwhile and that you can make choices and take action towards the outcomes that are important to you.
I have a special interest in working with young people, LGBTQIA individuals and women who may be experiencing unique challenges. I also have qualifications and experience in Vocational Education and Training, which contributes to my ability to teach clients skills and build confidence and understanding.

Individual therapy is a type of therapy where you work one-on-one with a Psychologist to address your emotional and mental health issues. In our sessions, we will work collaboratively to identify your goals and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. I provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. This is a judgement-free space!
We may work on identifying thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour; goal setting and decision making; building skills and confidence; developing helpful coping strategies and techniques; and we may vary our focus over time as new or different needs arise.

All sorts of people see Psychologists. Sometimes it is a crisis that brings people in, for example, a relationship breakdown, loss, injury/illness, major life change. Sometimes it is a long-running issue that someone finally decides to get some support with. That could be relationship issues, gender or sexuality questions, chronic anxiety or low mood, or other big life questions. Some people don't really know what is wrong - they just don't feel the way that they want to and need some help to problem-solve. It doesn't matter how small you think your issue is compared to others, or how big. You deserve to be heard and have help to guide you to better days.

There are a few options to make an appointment:
1. See your GP and request a GP Mental Health Care Plan referral. This allows you up to 10 subsidised sessions per year with a Psychologist. This means you can get an electronic rebate from Medicare within 24hours after paying the full fee ($160) to me in each session.
2. If you have private health insurance you can check with your insurer whether they will reimburse you for sessions with a Registered Psychologist. You pay the full fee and claim your rebate from the insurer.
3. You may attend as a private fee-paying client. You do not require a referral for that, you simply book an appointment with me and pay the full fee.
*Please note - At this time I cannot offer bulk-billed (no cost to client) services under Medicare, nor will I accept referrals under the Workers' Compensation scheme at this time. My fee is lower than many Psychologists in recognition of the high financial stress in our community so I cannot offer further discounts for Healthcare Card or Pension holders.
I do not accept referrals for children under 12, couples or families. These groups require a specific skill-set and environment that I can not accommodate at this time.
